Ban Weaponized Robots
Robots armed with deadly weapons are moving from military battlefields to our streets. We need to stop this dangerous trend, and the only way is to ban weaponized robots before people are hurt or killed.
Tell your state lawmakers: “Prevent robot killers! Pass a total ban on weaponized robots before it’s too late.”
Weaponized robots are coming to your block. Killer robots might seem like science fiction, but they’re spreading quickly to our cities and towns. San Francisco and Oakland have discussed letting police use lethal robotic machines, and robot security guards (so far non-weaponized) are proliferating in stores, offices, and venues. As it stands, there are no specific laws preventing anyone from building their own deadly robotic weapon.
This is a huge threat now, and it will only get worse. It’s bad enough that a remote-controlled device could hurt someone from miles away. But when facial recognition and autonomous decision-making are added to the mix, these devices will become the stuff of nightmares. Banning all weaponized robots now is the only way to keep people safe.
National officials are moving too slow. Local electeds can step up. States like Rhode Island, Montana, and New York have already taken the first steps towards banning killer robots. Activists in San Francisco and LA have pushed their city councils to stall or reject police use of these devices. But we need more state lawmakers to fight for laws that protect us from these deadly weapons, because debates on the national level are moving too slow for comfort.
Take action now. Send a letter to your lawmakers: “Robots armed with lethal weapons are moving from military battlefields to our city streets. As your constituent, I urge you to act NOW to stop the development and use of weaponized robots by law enforcement and civilians. Please prioritize our safety and ban killer robots!”
