Internet activists who won the net neutrality fight prepare to celebrate victory in Washington, DC
Fight for the Future, best known for their role instigating the SOPA protests, played pivotal role in net neutrality battle, created game changing Internet Slowdown protest
WASHINGTON, DC––While all eyes are on the Federal Communications Commission, Fight for the Future, a nonpartisan digital rights group that has played a central role in the net neutrality fight, is preparing to join with allies and supporters in Washington, DC to celebrate their unprecedented, and presumed impossible victory over cable company lobbyists.
This morning, net neutrality supporters plan to pack a House Energy and Commerce Committee hearing on Capitol Hill holding up their phones, laptops, and tablets opened to ProtestSign.org, a website that turns your entire device’s screen into a net neutrality “sign.” Check back soon for photos.
Fight for the Future campaign director Evan Greer said, “The cynical anti-net neutrality hearing this morning is a three ring circus that no one wants to buy tickets to. Everyone knows that the tides have turned. Even opponents of net neutrality and free speech are finally admitting defeat as the FCC prepares to vote on rules that–just one year ago–were thought to be completely impossible. DC insiders, lobbyists, and pundits would do well to take the word “impossible” out of their vocabulary. When Internet users learn that the free and open Web is being threatened, they’ll stop at nothing to defend it, and when the Internet comes together to fight, nothing is impossible.”
Greer and Fight for the Future co-founder Tiffiniy Cheng will be available for interviews at the following events in Washington, DC on Thursday, February 26th:
