Fight for the Future

The following statement can be attributed to Sarah Phillips (she/they) Campaigner at Fight for the Future, a queer women led digital rights organization that regularly engages with the FTC, including an action last week:

“Fight for the Future applauds today’s ruling to reinstate Commissioner Slaughter to the FTC. We hope that Slaughter will be a voice of reason within the FTC, which has increasingly bent to the Heritage Foundation’s goals of weaponizing federal agencies to do the dirty work of Project 2025. As the court stated in its decision, the protections against firing FTC Commissioners were originally intended “to insulate the agency from volatile political headwinds that might jeopardize its mission.” After Slaughter’s illegal firing, the FTC did just that: jeopardized its mission by descending into the cesspit of MAGA culture wars—trying to get between families and their doctors when they should instead be focusing on their mission to protect all families without discrimination. We urge the FTC to swiftly restore Slaughter to her role, so that she can help hold the line against bad-faith efforts to politicize consumer protections. The FTC needs to get back on course to defend everyday people from all walks of life, to investigate the abuses of big tech oligarchs, and to protect our privacy from dangerous and manipulative corporations.”
