SAFETY ADVISORY: No Ring for ICE this Halloween
Fight for the Future warns neighbors to turn off cameras
October 29, 2025 — This Halloween, leading digital rights group Fight for the Future is issuing an urgent safety advisory for Amazon Ring camera doorbells. In order to keep neighbors and communities safe, they must be turned off.
The advisory reads:
To preserve human rights and community safety, all people in the United States are advised to turn off and cover their Amazon Ring cameras this Halloween to avoid complicity with ICE operations and the deportation of immigrant families who are trick-or-treating.
Earlier this month, Amazon Ring announced a partnership with the notorious surveillance tech company Flock. This corporation was was recently exposed for secretly sharing camera data with Immigration & Customs Enforcement (ICE) and with out-of-state law enforcement investigating people who travel for abortion care. As surveillance devices like Ring doorbells are increasingly being weaponized against marginalized groups, Fight for the Future is raising awareness ahead of Friday so everyone can take action to protect the privacy and safety of all trick-or-treating children and families.
Reem Suleiman (she/her), Campaigns Director at Fight for the Future, said: “Amazon Ring & Flock are the match made in Hell for our community’s most vulnerable. For years, Amazon Ring has cultivated a cozy relationship with police departments and hosted a platform for cops to request private footage. This new partnership with Flock is just the next phase in the doorbell camera company’s commitment to criminalizing abortion and capitulating to ICE’s brutal and inhumane agenda of deportation.”
In addition to the one-time Halloween advisory, the organization also encourages the following steps:
- Activate end-to-end encryption on all Ring cameras to block the sharing of data without the camera owner’s consent.
- Stop using their Ring surveillance cameras for good – as this is the only way to truly avoid complicity in Ring and Flock’s partnership with ICE.
- Continue having these conversations in neighborhoods and community meetings so that our doorsteps don’t become one more tool for ICE deportation and criminalization of abortion. To support this effort, the organization has created a printable door hanger as a tool to start this conversation gently with your neighbors and spread awareness about this deadly partnership.
